Biography

Joanne Meier, Ph.D. is the Senior Assistant Dean for Digital and Instructional Initiatives. In this capacity, she leads teams focused on faculty development, instructional design, media and production, and live studios. Most recently, her work included supporting faculty and staff through the instructional transitions related to COVID-19.  Meier joined Darden in 2014, and previously served on the faculty at the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development. She has worked in a broad range of settings, from top ranked business schools to PBS, providing guidance and expertise related to curriculum and instruction to a wide range of stakeholders. Dr. Meier co-authored PALS, a literacy screening instrument, used today by over 17,000 PreK–grade 3 teachers in Virginia. Dr. Meier has conducted research and published in several professional education journals.  Meier earned her Ph.D. and M.Ed from the University of Virginia and a BA from the University of South Carolina. In 2019, Meier graduated from UVA’s Cornerstone Program for high-potential leaders.
