Biography

David Clark is an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics at Grand Valley State University in west Michigan. He earned his PhD in 2012 at Michigan Technological University. Along with his co-author Robert Tolbert, David shares research, advice, and stories about alternative grading through his blog and book, both named Grading for Growth. Beyond assessment, David studies combinatorics -- the art and science of counting -- and especially enjoys introducing students to mathematical research through combinatorial games. He also serves on the senior staff for MathPath, a month-long residential enrichment program for middle school students. David is an avid photographer, backpacker, and boardgamer.
