Studio Art Associate Professor Akemi Ohira shares how a new piece of technology helped to create community among students in her hybrid courses and opened her eyes to a new way of teaching. Ohira’s courses on printmaking are typically very hands on, with students using a wide range of chemicals and heavy equipment in the print shop. With the help of the A&S Learning Design & Technology team, Ohira has been able to broadcast demos with a GoPro camera attached to her head, enabling remote and in-person students to watch in real time. Ohira says this experience not only kept her students engaged, but also allowed her to grow as a teacher and an artist.
