Giving Meaningful Feedback Using Interactive Online Worksheets

French Assistant Professor Elizabeth Hall frequently does small group activities in her courses that tasks students with answering questions that guide them through a literary analysis or structured conversation. In a face-to-face course, Hall would usually walk around the classroom, listening to the discussion and giving students feedback. She has recreated this activity online using a Google Doc, where she is able to view all the groups’ work at once and leave comments in the margins. Hall has found that this has led to an improved experience for all involved--students have told her that this allows them to engage with one another more freely, while Hall believes this reimagined activity is more efficient and transparent. She says the simplest ideas are oftentimes the best ones!
