College at Wise Associate Professor Cody Sanders shares how she creates collaborative spaces within the LMS to organize group work and foster engagement. Each team has their own discussion board in which students submit their parts of the weekly assignment. Sanders says this helps to hold students accountable throughout the process, ensures students always have access to their documents, and serves as a gallery walk for all teams to critique and borrow ideas from each other. At the beginning of the semester, she also asks each student to create a memoji (a customizable avatar) to represent themselves. These memojis are then used throughout the semester to personalize the student’s work and create a sense of community.
