In this essay that describes a “queer approach” to peer review in the classroom, the author argues that the goal of most peer review (continuous improvement) is a form of what Lauren Berland calls “cruel optimism” and proposes “slow peer review” as an alternative practice that opens up new anti-normative possibilities.
