Biography

Dr. Katie Johnson is a Professor of Mathematics and the Interim Director of the Learning Assistants (LA) Program at Florida Gulf Coast University, where she has led the program’s growth from its inception in 2016 to supporting over 150 Learning Assistants across more than 15 departments each year. Her work focuses on integrating active learning strategies into a wide range of courses, particularly in STEM fields, through training and mentoring both LAs and faculty. As Chair of the Executive Committee of the Learning Assistant Alliance, Dr. Johnson plays a key role in supporting LA programs nationally, contributing to initiatives like regional workshops and the International Learning Assistant Conference. Her passion lies in building inclusive, student-centered learning environments and empowering educators to adopt evidence-based teaching practices that support student engagement and success.
